Biography Mary M. Luallen, 79, of Peoria Heights, passed away at 7:58 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at ManorCare in Peoria. Mary was born on April 24, 1928 in Danville, IL, daughter of Gordon E. Gammel and Dot Haworth. She married Fredrick “Don” Donald Luallen on August 23, 1947 in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2001. Her parents and one sister, Betty Ellars, also preceded her in death. Mary is survived by two daughters, Dora (Bradley) Welker of Sherman, IL and Donna J. Luallen of Peoria Heights; one brother, Edward (Patsy) Gammel of Sacramento, CA; one granddaughter, Ashley Lynn Welker of Sherman; one grandson, Clayton Allen Welker of Sherman; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was the plant manager’s secretary at Pabst Brewing Company in Peoria Heights, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria. Mary enjoyed redbud trees, cats, working in her flower garden, swimming, diving, bowling and cheering for the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed watching Westerns, the Sound of Music and Matlock. She liked to spend her time at home with her family and friends, especially at Christmas and New Years. Mary was an assistant Girl Scout leader, a member of Who’s Who of American Women, a member of the Finance Committee for Peoria Heights School District 325, a founder and member of the Citizen’s for Neighborhood Schools and a past President and member of the Women’s Association of the Allied Beverage Industry. Mary was a very generous lady and her family is proud of the courage and strength that she displayed. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Peoria, with the Rev. Vonna Lou Larson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Internment will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur, IL at 2 p.m. on Thursday, with committal services lead by the Rev. John Spohn of Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Consultants in Peoria. |
